Diana's Vision Statement

I have been painting , in oil and water color for forty five of my fifty years. I do it as a way to rise above normal reality, into an expanded sense of being. I paint until I reach that clarity of mind, where the painting paints itself . It is a wordless state, where I am no longer thinking, where the painting is happening effortlessly, almost as if I were a vehicle for a larger force, and I need to simply surrender to the flow. I use realism because the natural beauty of the world is intoxicating, allowing me to more easily lose myself.

These paintings are a love affair with the world I see, a positive statement that in the mundane is the spiritual, if only we look close enough. I choose to make the simple, sacred, and in that way bring joy to the viewer. Our modern minds are crowded with words, ideas and problems--my art is an atempt to stop all that chatter and move into the visual, resting for a moment in color, healing for a moment in the wonder of simple relationships. Take a walk for a moment and look at the cement, the cracks are wonderful!

I paint mostly in oil, though I keep up with the water color and am accumulating a large stack of pastel figure drawings. I have worked in bronze and lithography and silk screen, samples available upon request.
